The Verified Trader badge is a stronger signal than a basic listing badge — it confirms a NearbyTraders editor has spoken to the business owner, checked their contact details, and added a verified mark to their public profile. It's free to apply.

What "verified" means on NearbyTraders

Verification is a lightweight ownership and contact check — not a vetting or accreditation scheme. When a business is verified, we have:

Confirmed the listed phone number reaches the business owner or a nominated representative.
Cross-checked at least one external source (Companies House, Gas Safe register, NICEIC roll, or a publicly listed Google Business Profile) where applicable.
Recorded the verification date so visitors can see it's recent.

Verification is not a guarantee of workmanship or an endorsement. Always get 2–3 quotes and confirm credentials directly with the trader before booking work — the same advice we give for unverified listings.

How to get verified — the process

Send the verify request. Use the Verify My Listing form (or email hello@nearbytraders.co.uk) with your business name, town and a contact phone number.
We confirm your listing. An editor finds your existing NearbyTraders profile or creates one if you're not yet listed. We aim to reply within 2 business days.
Quick phone check. We call the listed number and confirm one or two basic details (your trading name and the area you cover). It takes 2–3 minutes.
Verification goes live. Your profile gets the verified mark. We email you the verified-trader embed code so you can add the badge to your website.

Does verification cost anything?
No. Verification is part of our editorial work and is free for every trader.

How long does verification last?
Verification is reviewed annually. We may call again to confirm details if your listing changes significantly.

Can a customer request a trader be verified?
Yes — if you've used a trader and would like their profile verified, send us the business name and we'll reach out.

What disqualifies a trader from verification?
Disconnected phone numbers, unresolved County Court Judgments, or inability to confirm trading status will pause verification until they're resolved.
