PH2 vs PZ2 screwdriver bits: which one fits your screw?

PH2 and PZ2 are different screw-driving profiles. PH2 means Phillips size 2; PZ2 means Pozidriv size 2. Choose the profile specified for the screw rather than treating the shared number as permission to swap them. The 2 is a tip-size designation, not a 2 mm bit length or a complete screw-diameter specification.

How to tell Phillips and Pozidriv apart

Wera describes Phillips as a simple cross profile and Pozidriv as a cross with additional flanks that create a star-like pattern. Read the screw or fastener packaging as well as looking at the recess. A worn, painted or damaged head can make visual identification uncertain; check the fastener specification before choosing a replacement bit.

Keep both parts of the marking together: PH2 or PZ2. A box described only as number 2 cross-head bits leaves out the profile that determines which screw it is intended to drive.

Compare two documented 25 mm bits

These Wera examples make the distinction concrete. Their length and holder connection match, but their working tips are specified for different screw profiles. They are reference examples, not a claim that either bit is supplied with your tool or is the best option for every job.

Separate the tip from the holder end

PH2 or PZ2 identifies the end that engages the screw. The 1/4-inch hex in these datasheets describes the other end, held by a suitable bit holder. A common holder connection therefore does not make the two screw profiles interchangeable.

Wera also lists other lengths within these product families. Keep the exact article number when comparing offers: a PH2 bit can have the right tip but a different length from the one you intended to order. Check the holder requirements and the space available around the fastener separately.

Choose the contents you will actually use

For a mixed bit set, read its PH and PZ contents individually. A large piece count does not tell you whether it includes PZ2, PH2 or useful duplicates of either. Compare the listed profiles, lengths and holder with the screws and tool you have identified.

If the bit will be used in an impact driver, check the exact product's stated application and the tool instructions as an additional requirement. A PH2 or PZ2 marking alone does not establish impact suitability. Stop if the profile cannot be identified confidently instead of using extra force to compensate for a poor match.

TAKE THIS TO THE LISTING

Before you buy

  • Match the full profile and size: PH2 for a specified Phillips size-2 recess, PZ2 for Pozidriv size 2.
  • Read bit length separately from tip size and the 1/4-inch holder connection.
  • Confirm exact set contents, article number and tool/holder requirements before ordering.
  • Check impact suitability separately where an impact driver will be used.
