Adjustable spanners

Choose an adjustable spanner by its jaw opening and access around the fastener, not just the overall handle length. Two spanners with similar handles may have different maximum openings or head thicknesses. Measure across the flats of the nut or bolt you need to grip, and compare that with the manufacturer’s stated capacity. For work in a confined space, the width of the head and room to move the handle can matter as much as the maximum jaw opening.

MATCH THE DETAILS TO YOUR JOB

What to check before buying

  1. Check maximum jaw opening in millimetres against the measured fastener width across its flat faces.
  2. Compare head thickness and overall length with the space available around the intended fastener.
  3. Confirm whether the listing is one spanner or a set, and list the capacities of every included size.
  4. Check the handle style, weight and jaw-adjustment details for the exact product code being offered.
