SDS-plus drill bits and sizes

Begin with the tool holder named in your rotary hammer’s manual. SDS-plus and SDS-max are separate fitting families; the word SDS alone is not a complete buying specification. Next identify the material, required hole diameter and useful drilling depth. Bosch separates working length from total length in its accessory tables, so a long-looking bit is not necessarily the right choice for a deep fixing. For wall plugs or anchors, take the required hole specification from that particular fixing’s instructions.

What to check before buying

  1. Match the exact SDS-plus fitting to the tool manual; do not infer fit from bit diameter alone.
  2. Check the drilling diameter in millimetres against the specified fixing, including its named manufacturer and variant.
  3. Compare working length and total length separately, allowing for the depth required by the fixing instructions.
  4. Confirm the stated target material, pack quantities and the exact diameters supplied in mixed sets.
