These examples come from UK-facing manufacturer pages. Their claims apply to the named product, not to tack cloths as a class. In particular, a statement about less adhesive on your hands is different from a statement about residue on the workpiece.

Check the finish before relying on a residue claim

Axus describes its Pro-Finish cloth as leaving no residue and recommends it between coats. That is a manufacturer claim for this cloth, not a comparative test or approval for every finish. Confirm that your paint or coating maker accepts the proposed preparation method, especially when its instructions specify a particular wipe or process.

Colad explicitly lists waterborne and conventional coating systems for its Waffled cloth. Do not transfer that compatibility statement to an unbranded cloth or another product bearing a similar colour. The substrate, coating and chosen cloth must be considered together; an omitted compatibility statement is a reason to check, not evidence that all systems are covered.

3M’s linked Aqua 50401 technical sheet limits that product to professional industrial use. Its automotive panel-preparation process includes a separate degreasing stage. This is a specialist comparison reference, not a household cleaning recommendation.

Use the cloth for the job it specifies

For the Waffled product, Colad calls for gentle wiping with minimal pressure and excludes hot surfaces. Follow those restrictions for that item. Axus says its larger cloth can be folded and reused; confirm the purchased cloth’s instructions before assuming that any used tack cloth remains suitable for another pass.

Read the selected Amazon pack description for the product code, number of sheets and unfolded dimensions. Keep the cloth protected from unrelated dirt before the final preparation stage. If the surface still needs grease removal or another treatment specified by the coating maker, complete that process as directed rather than treating dust collection as a substitute.
