Wall-plug and drill-bit sizes

Start with the wall material and the exact plug product, then use its manufacturer’s table to find the drill diameter and suitable screw range. Colour is not a universal sizing system across brands. Fischer’s DuoPower table separately lists drill diameter, plug length, hole depth, screw dimensions and substrate-dependent loads. Those are distinct checks, so do not turn a single number from a packet into a general rule. For a shelf or bracket, the fixture and wall must be considered together.

  1. Identify the substrate and the exact plug manufacturer, range and dimensions before choosing a drilling diameter.
