Window draught excluders: profile and gap sizes

Choose a window draught excluder for the frame arrangement and measured gap. Compare the product’s compressed working range, attachment and supplied length; a profile name or thick-looking strip alone does not confirm fit.

Compare two documented frame seals

These examples have different stated working ranges. The Tesa page at the legacy P-Profile address currently names the product INSULATION Weatherstrip Rubber L. Match its manufacturer number and current specification rather than using an old search-result title as the buying identity.

Gap width is different from strip width

Measure the opening that the installed seal must close, then compare that measurement with the stated gap range. The strip’s overall width, uncompressed thickness and roll length describe different things. A 5 m roll is not a claim about the largest opening it can seal.

For a worked shopping example, a hypothetical 600 × 900 mm rectangular sealing run totals 3 m: two 600 mm sides plus two 900 mm sides. This is a length calculation, not a fitting instruction or a guarantee that a three-metre pack suffices. Use the actual installation path and allow for the selected product’s cut and joining instructions.

Check the window arrangement first

Stormguard describes V Seal for wooden and metal hinged doors and windows. That wording does not make it a replacement gasket for every uPVC window or every sliding sash arrangement. Identify the window type and existing seal before selecting a stick-on alternative.

Check that the proposed installation permits the window to open, close and latch normally. Follow the maker’s preparation and positioning instructions; stacking extra seals to compensate for an unsuitable profile is not a documented fit check. Keep deliberate vents and drainage provisions clear in accordance with the window instructions.

Compare complete Amazon variants

Record the manufacturer identity, working gap, profile and required length together. Check whether an offer supplies one length, a pair of strips or a multipack, and confirm its colour and attachment method. A similar product image can hide a different gap range.

The door-bottom and letterbox references cover other draught locations. Choose the relevant opening before ordering. These published examples establish selection fields; they do not estimate savings for your home or certify that an existing window needs only a new seal.

MATCH THE DETAILS TO YOUR JOB

What to check before buying

  1. Identify the frame material, opening arrangement and existing seal.
  2. Measure the gap in several places and compare the exact stated range.
  3. Check adhesive surface suitability and the profile’s installation position.
  4. Measure the total required run separately from gap width.
  5. Retain intended ventilation and follow the window maker’s requirements.
