Draught-excluder gap sizes

Identify whether the gap is around the door or window frame or beneath the door. Those locations need different product shapes. Measure the gap along its length rather than taking a single reading, then compare it with the excluder’s stated working range. Tesa distinguishes floor surfaces and door-bottom seal formats, so the floor covering also matters. Choose a product that suits the existing door arrangement and follow its intended-use guidance, including any restrictions on the type of door.

For a door draught excluder, first locate the opening: beneath the door, around its frame or through the letterbox. Each needs a different format. The examples below cover two internal door-bottom designs and a separate frame seal; they are not interchangeable external-door weather seals.

Compare two internal door-bottom formats

Stormguard names these two products for internal doors. Their supplied lengths differ, and only the 02SR547 page below supplies a maximum under-door gap. Do not transfer that limit to the other design.

Measure the floor and the moving door

Record the door width and the clearance at several points underneath it. Check the floor along the opening arc, including a carpet edge or transition strip. A measurement taken only with the door shut does not describe every point the seal will pass.

For an original buying example, an 820 mm wide door requires a sufficient supplied length after any permitted trimming. That width alone cannot tell you whether a 20 mm gap will be sealed: you also need the product’s stated working gap, floor requirements and attachment instructions. Length and sealing depth answer separate questions.

Keep frame seals separate from bottom seals

Stormguard V Seal 05SR180 is a self-adhesive frame option for wooden or metal hinged doors and windows with a stated 1–8 mm gap range. It belongs around the frame, rather than replacing either under-door product in the table. A long roll does not establish that its profile suits the existing rebate.

If the gap is through the post opening, use the separate letterbox reference. For a window frame, the window reference compares a second documented range. Match the location and exact installation instructions before comparing Amazon pack prices.

Take the measurements to the listing

Keep the manufacturer code, intended location, length and permitted working gap together in your shortlist. Retailer photos can show a similar shape with a different profile or pack quantity. Confirm those fields on the selected offer and inspect any supplied fitting instructions.

These examples provide published dimensions and scope. They do not establish a heating-cost saving, weather resistance for an unlisted use or suitability for altering a particular door assembly. Confirm the door maker’s requirements, especially where the existing seals or ventilation have a defined purpose.

tesa tesamoll E-Profile seal, brown, 10 m × 9 mm × 3.5 mm

Amazon identifies the brown 10 m E-Profile pack for sealing frame/perimeter gaps, not a door-bottom brush or sweep. The current manufacturer range is INSULATION Rubber Weatherstrip (Small), for gaps of 1–3.5 mm. Measure the gap and choose the correct sealing position; the manufacturer page does not independently confirm this pack’s colour or length.
